After serving 10 months in prison for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, Oscar Pistorius is set to be released next week, on the 21 August.

Even though he was sentenced to 5 years, the early release has been granted after Oscar had been “behaving himself very well.”

Reports suggest that the gold medallist did not personally request the early release, but instead was recommended for it by parole board Kgosi Mampuru II in Pretoria, where he is currently being held.

In November last year Oscar was sentenced for the culpable homicide (after initially being charged with pre-meditated murder) of the 29-year-old model, who he shot dead in his home on the Valentine’s Day of 2013.

The prosecutors in the case applied to appeal the “shockingly light” sentence, and the case will now go in front of the Supreme Court with an appeal hearing in November.

If his conviction is upgraded to murder, this would result in a minimum 15 year prison sentence.
