If we won an Oscar we would be totally and utterly shocked (mostly because we don’t act) so we can kind of see why Eddie Redmayne was stunned when he was handed the Best Actor award at the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Eddie was given the prize for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and he happily trotted up on to the stage to collect it.

But when he took a second look at the statue as he clutched it in his hand, he seemed absolutely terrified by it, almost as if he was holding some kind of monster.

He’s now spoken out to explain why he was so jittery and it wasn’t the Oscar at all – it was actress Cate Blanchett, who announced the winner of his category.

Speaking backstage after his win he told reporters: “I mean, the fact that it was Cate Blanchett giving it.

“And so I was recovering from that excitement of seeing her, and then just trying to bury all this frenzy of nerves and white noise and trying to speak articulately.

“Of course, you just forget everything but it just felt like euphoria, really – an extraordinary euphoria. It’s something I will not forget in a hurry.”

Naww! If you ever need anyone to look after your Oscar, Eddie, we’re here!
