The comedienne, who passed away in September 2014 after routine throat surgery, was expected to get a mention at the ceremony in Los Angeles last night but was missed off the list.

Alongside her stand-up routines and television work, Joan starred in films including Serial Mom, The Swimmer and The Intern.

Joan was also a valued contributor in the coverage of the Oscars, using her wit and humour to send up some of the biggest A-list stars.

Want some more Oscars 2015 goodness? Then step this way…

“The Oscars leaving off Joan Rivers is so f*****g unacceptable. She is why there is pre-show coverage. Disgusting,” one angry fan wrote, while someone else said: “It really is sad that they didn't include joan rivers in the memoriam segment of the oscars she's been covering the oscars since the 70s.”

Another added: “No Joan Rivers in the montage??? She basically created the red carpet which makes all of these bitches millions. For shame!!!”

Joan’s daughter, Melissa, paid her own special tribute to her mum on E! with a video montage of some of her best moments, including taking Kevin Spacey to task over his outfit and fighting with other reporters for space on the red carpet.

“It's hard to believe it was twenty years ago that my mother and I stood on this very red carpet for the first time,” Melissa said. “My mom asked questions that nobody else dared to ask.

“There were so many great moments with so many of the greats. And I think the reason everybody loved talking to my mother, just like the people who sit in these bleachers, was because she was a true fan.”

Other names mentioned in the Oscars In Memoriam segment included Maya Angelou, Mickey Rooney, Robin Williams and Lauren Bacall.
