Eddie was handed the Best Actor Academy Award for his role as Stephen in The Theory Of Everything. The film followed the life of a young Stephen and his struggle with Motor Neurone Disease and his relationship with ex-wife Jane Wilde (played by Felicity Jones).

The pair worked closely together before Eddie started filming for the epic film and became firm friends.

Stephen was so impressed with Eddie’s acting, he even revealed he was so true to his character, he mistook him at times for himself.

Want some more Oscars 2015 goodness? Then step this way…

“I thought Eddie Redmayne portrayed me very well,” Stephen said. “At times I thought he was me. I think Eddie’s commitment will have a big emotional impact.”

On hearing of the 33-year-old’s win, Stephen, 73, wrote on his Facebook page: “Congratulations to Eddie Redmayne for winning an ‪Oscar‬ for playing me in The Theory of Everything Movie.

“Well done Eddie, I’m very proud of you.”

Eddie used his acceptance speech to speak about people living with the degenerative illness and dedicated his award to them.

“I am fully aware that I am a lucky, lucky man,” Eddie said. “This Oscar belongs to all of those people around the world battling ALS. It belongs to one exceptional family.

“I will be its custodian and I will promise you I will look after him.”

Eddie beat Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper and Steve Carell to scoop the prize.
