Well, we certainly didn’t have daytime telly favourite, Paul O’Grady, pegged as a drugs mule.

Until now, that is…

The TV presenter has claimed he once had to swallow drugs at an airport to avoid getting thrown in jail.

In his new book, Open The Cage, Murphy!, Paul says he was forced to swallow a big ol’ lump of marijuana while holidaying in Thailand back in 1992.

While holding a stash of cannabis in his hand, two armed guards at the airport approached him and his late partner, Brendan Murphy.

Paul decided his only option was to swallow the evidence, washed down with coke (the drink NOT more drugs…), and continue to fly to Australia while “blissfully” off his rocker.

"Jesus, Savage. I’ve got a lump of dope in my pocket," Paul claims Brendan told him.

“I groaned, the film Midnight Express instantly springing to mind – complete with a vision of Murphy and me sharing a rat-infested cell with John Hurt."

“‘You bloody fool,’ I said, as I saw to my horror two armed guards walking towards us. There was no sign of a bin and the guards were getting closer.

"There was only one thing for it.”

Best thing for it, Paul – we’ve all seen Banged Up Abroad.

P.S. Don’t do drugs – they’re bad for you.
