The pop star's wife has sadly lost her two-year battle with brain cancer

Former model and wife of 80s pop star Paul Young, Stacey Smith, sadly lost her fight to cancer on Friday, 25th January 2018.

It is said that she died in the presence of her husband and her four children: Levi, Layla, Grady and Jude.

A spokesperson for the family confirmed the news in a statement, reading: "The singer Paul Young has today announced that his wife, Stacey Young, sadly passed away today after a two-year fight with brain cancer."

"Stacey died peacefully at home surrounded by family, friends and her four children: Levi, Layla, Grady and Jude. The family respectfully ask for privacy at this time."

Paul also broke the news in a post on Twitter yesterday afternoon.

He wrote: "Sadly Stacey has passed away today after a 2 year fight with brain cancer. She died peacefully at our home surrounded by family, friends and her four children: Levi, Layla, Grady and Jude."

Paul and Stacey met in 1983, on the set of his single *Come Back And Stay, *and married four years later. They went on the have three children - Levi, Layla and Grady - together.

The couple had a somewhat turbulent relationship over the years, and even separated for three years in 2006.

During this time, Stacey had her fourth child - Jude - with an Israeli businessman called llan Slazenger. Paul and Stacey then reconciled in 2009.

Speaking about their time apart, Paul previously revealed he knew they were meant to be together.

"You have to work at marriage but it helps that I know we were meant to be together," he said, according to The Mirror.

"I have known that since I met her. She is funny; she has a good sense of humour. She’s a little bit wild, a little mad, but I love that about her."
