This is the most popular Netflix show in the world

We were NOT expecting it to be this one

Breaking Bad. House of Cards. Orange is the New Black. Just three examples of absolutely top quality shows Netflix churns out while we sit and stare at our screens eating crisps.

None of these, however, are Netflix's most popular show around the world. Which is surprising when you think of the amount of people who tell you to watch Breaking Bad (you really should though, it's excellent).

A new study conducted by HighSpeedInternet.com has calculated what the most popular show per country is, as well as the world's favourite TV show to watch via Netflix using Google Trends data. And no, it's not what you think.

Because it's, erm, BBC's Sherlock. Yeah, the one with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

Don't get us wrong, it's a cracking watch, but the most popular show IN THE WORLD?! We are agog. We are more than agog. We are totally out of gogs right now.

The data not only showed the number one, but it also revealed the top five - which features a few you might expect.

Friends came in a close second, followed by Netflix original Narcos, House of Cards and then Fox's New Girl.

If you'd like to see that in numbered, table format then you're in luck:

  1. Sherlock (still can't get over it)

  2. Friends

  3. Narcos

  4. House of Cards

  5. New Girl

Well, the amount of hours we've spent mouthing along to the Central Perk gang or - worse - saying the lines JUST before they do, makes the second spot understandable. Same with the rest of them.

In terms of the UK's favourite Netflix show, apparently it's Call The Midwife which we can understand, because we're pretty much addicted to that.

But Sherlock eh? Who knew it was more popular than Chandler Bing et al?!
