Legendary singer Prince has been laid to rest after he passed away this week.

The musician was apparently determined his funeral plans be carried out just as he lived his life - out of the spotlight.

On Friday he was cremated as his family paid their respects to their loved one.

The star’s body was released in Minnesota after an autopsy on Friday afternoon and he was driven to Minneapolis to the First Memorial Western Chapel with his sister Tyka, her son Prez and another family member.

A family friend told the Sunday Mirror: “Throughout his life and following his Jehovah’s Witness faith Prince made it clear to his family that if he ever were to be taken from us he wanted to die with dignity.

“He had very precise ideas about how he wanted his death to be handled and that didn’t involve a huge funeral but a quiet service.

“He wanted it to be kept to the minimum of fuss. Prince was such a figure; you don’t need a funeral to remember him by.

“The world has his music instead. He wanted to simply disappear with no fuss, no drama, no fanfare. It was just his style.”

Prince’s family stayed inside the chapel for four hours before they were handed a casket containing his ashes.

His sister is said to be doing everything she can to follow through with his wishes after his passing.

Tyka and her husband are now apparently planning a huge memorial so Prince’s fans can pay tribute.

Police are still investigating the nature of the pop star’s death and are focussing on the final seven days of his life, in particular the reason why his private jet made an emergency landing so he could receive medical attention.

The star allegedly suffered a drug overdose after taking a painkiller and his plane was quickly landed five days before he died in Illinois so a “save shot” could be administered to resuscitate him.

Prince was found unresponsive in a lift at his home in Minnesota, Paisley Park, this week.

Paramedics performed CPR but were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead less than 30 minutes after a call to emergency services was made.
