Huge news today as it’s claimed Rita Ora is going up against one of the biggest names around, by suing Jay Z’s record label, Roc Nation, to terminate her contract with them.
Rita signed with Jay Z in 2008 at the age of 18, but, according to US site, The Hollywood Reporter, she’s seeking to end her agreement, claiming it is in violation of California's 'seven-year rule' in a lawsuit filed on Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Rita, 25, has only released one album since her debut title in 2012 and she claims the change in direction led to her being forgotten about.
A glance at Roc Nation’s website this morning showed that Rita had been removed from the alphabentically-listed artists page… After Rihanna comes... Riiiiit, nope. No it doesn't.
“When Rita signed, Roc Nation and its senior executives were very involved with her as an artist,' the suit apparently states. “As Roc Nation's interests diversified, there were fewer resources available and the company suffered a revolving door of executives.
“Rita's remaining supporters at the label left or moved on to other activities, to the point where she no longer had a relationship with anyone at the company.”
The paperwork also calls Roc Nation a “diminished” record label with “only a handful of admittedly worthy heritage superstar artists.”
The label is home to artists like Rihanna, her ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris, HAIM, Willow Smith, Shakira, Meek Mill, Kanye West, Jay Z, J. Cole, Grimes and Emeli Sande.
“Rita’s relationship with Roc Nation is irrevocably damaged,” the complaint claims. “Fortunately for Rita, the California legislature had the foresight to protect its artists from the sorts of vicissitudes she's experienced with Roc Nation.”
WOW RITA… Beyonce right now is like…
