There are ways of telling your family you're engaged - you can do it by phone, by email, Facebook messenger, or by real mouth-talking.
One way that's often frowned upon, however, is if you wait for the family to find out through other people reporting it on the internet - which is exactly what Rob Kardashian has done (another is inscribing 'I'M GETTING MARRIED' onto a crow and throwing it through your parent's window, but that's not relevant here).
The controversial relationship between Blac Chyna and estranged-Kardashian-slash-sock-designer Rob has been gathering momentum since they started going out early this year, finally culinating in an engagement just four months in.
In a preview clip for next weekend's Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim reveals: "We wake up to all of these pictures of my brother getting engaged", which is followed by footage of sister Khloe reading articles online about the engagement.
It's worth pointing out that Khloe lived with Rob until she chucked him out upon finding out he was dating Blac Chyna, so she'll probably have some strong opinions on the subject.
In fact, we're expecting quite a few strong opinions from quite a few Kardashians in the upcoming episode.
After the couple - who are expecting their first child - got engaged, the Kardashians were quiet about the whole thing which should have set alarm bells ringing.
The fact that Kanye West was the first person to say anything should really have set all aforementioned alarm bells on fire.
"You know, Rob is my brother," he said. "I love Rob. I just roll with it. I love Rob, that's all I can say. I love Rob."
While we wished Kanye could have clarified his feelings about Rob more, it then transpired he hadn't been invited to the wedding. Which was a bit of a bombshell.
Or, in Kardashian-speak, a Katastrophe (It's a really simple language; you just add a 'K' on to the beginning of words that usually start with 'C') despite his protestations that the Kardashians were fine about it.
"It's all love and blessings," he said not at all vaguely, and not at all sounding like a robot priest.
Despite our instincts telling us it's going to be an explosive episode, we know it all turns out OK in the end; Kim recently insisted they were very happy for the couple and can't wait until their baby is born.
"Everyone is doing really great," she said. "Everyone is super excited."
Did she go to the same School of Vague as Kanye West?! They should get married or something.
