Poor old Eva Mendes. There she was, making a casual comment about sweatpants and Ryan Gosling, and then the internet turned against her.

The actress came under fire for revealing in an interview that she thought sweatpants were the number one cause of divorce.

Asked by Extra if she wears sweatpants at home, Mendes answered. “No no no, sweatpants, no no no . . . you can’t do sweatpants...Ladies, number one cause of divorce in America, sweatpants—no, you can’t do that!”

OBVIOUSLY Eva was joking, but the throwaway comment still made headlines, and attracted some angry comments online. Because let's be honest, wearing sweatpants is AMAZING and people want to defend their right to wear velour in front of their beloved.

But just in case the internet wasn't clear that she really was joking, Ryan Gosling waded in on Twitter, and revealed that actually, he's pretty OK with the whole sweatpants at home situation:

"Obviously sweatpants thing was a joke. Wearing them now. That's right, tweeting in sweatpants. Rats! Said too much! You win again Twitter".

Well, we're glad that's all cleared up - now we're off to think about Ryan in his sweatpants...
