Our hearts broke for Britney Spears and her fiancé Sam Asghari last week, when they revealed the loss of their baby just weeks after announcing their pregnancy. The singer took to Instagram to reveal she had miscarried her “miracle baby”, while Sam promised fans they wouldn’t give up hope, writing, “We will be expanding our family soon.”

“Britney is doing her best to stay strong, but this is so devastating for her – she’s taken it really hard,” says an insider close to the 40-year-old singer, who got engaged to model and actor Sam in September, after five years of dating.

“She’s in an extremely fragile place and isn’t sleeping well. Sam’s by her side 24/7 and is so worried about her. He’s being a real trooper, fixing up healthy meals for them both, fetching hot milk to help Brit sleep, or reading her books and finding calming apps that help soothe her nerves. He’s also been listing all the reasons they have to be happy and thankful right now. He’s always had a reassuring way about him and can calm Britney down and lift her spirits better than anyone else.”

Sam, 28, thanked fans for the outpouring of love last week, writing on Instagram, “We have felt your support. We are taking things positively and moving forward with our future. It’s hard but we are not alone.”

His comments came just a few days after Britney broke the news on her account, writing, “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy. This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along, however we were overly excited to share the good news.”

She added, “Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family. We are grateful for all of your support.”

Britney – who’s mum to sons Sean, 16, Jayden, 15, – has spoken for months of her desire to have a baby with Sam, revealing in court last summer that her conservatorship prevented her taking out her contraceptive implant.

Now, insiders say the couple are trying to focus on their future together – including their forthcoming wedding this summer. “Making plans for their big day has been a boost for them both,” says heat’s source.

“They’ve also been really lifted up by the messages of love from fans. Of course, things are tough, but Britney is a survivor and, with Sam’s help, she’s going to pick herself up and find the strength to rebuild herself once again.”
