First Ed Sheeran and now Sam Smith, our hearts can't take it.

Sam Smith Oscars

Sam Smith, Oscar winner (who could forget?) tweeted last night that he is taking a break from social media.

Sam’s dramatic departure follows that awkward Oscars speech when he said: “I read an article… by Sir Ian McKellen and he said no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar”.

Which is not actually the case. Awkward.

Following Sam’s gaffe, Gandalf – sorry - Sir Ian clarified that when he made his statement he was talking about the Best Actor award.

Sam then felt the wrath of Tom Daley’s fiancé – Dustin Lance Black - who tweeted:

Dustin won an Oscar award for Original Screenplay for Milk, a film about gay rights activist Harvey Milk.

All of which left our Sam in a bit of a tizz. He tweeted:

He also contacted Dustin saying:

Adding:

Aw, Sam. We literally love you.

Dustin later tweeted:

Wow, what a tweet tornado.

We thought everything was finally cleared up until last night when Sam tweeted:

Nooooooo, Sam. Come back, please you’re not the only one who makes mistakes, all is forgiven we promise.

P.S. can we join you with your shaken not stirred Martinis?

During his social media break we’ll be playing Sam’s songs on repeat in the office. For a bit, anyway.
