During her time on I'm A Celeb, Scarlett made her fear of enclosed spaces known, but fans of the show have pointed out that she's shared quite a few lift-selfies before the show started.
Most notably, when Scarlett was asked to get into a coffin-sized box full of beetles, she said: "I feel if I can do this I might finally be able to go into lifts.
"I was on the 34th floor [in the hotel she stayed at before the show began] and I walked the stairs because I can't stand small spaces."
Thing is, she'd posted this on her instagram:
And also, er, this:
Oh, and this. Yep. It's another snap of her in a lift.
Viewers took to Twitter at the time, with one saying: "@ScarlettMoffatt don't forget to delete all your lift selfies. So you can pretend to be scared of them still", and another adding: "Considering you said you can't even go in a lift you seem to spend an awful lot of time in them @ScarlettMoffatt you are a FAKE!!!"
Fascinating how riled people can get about a person they don't know making a comment about something they have no idea about when said person is about to get into a coffin full of beetles. We're fairly sure if everything we said was held up to scrutiny, we'd fail hard. But anyway, Scarlett has defended herself against the trolls.
Talking to The Sun, the 26-year-old said: "It’s not a lift phobia, it’s claustrophobia. Claustrophobia is being scared of confined spaces. I haven’t got a fear of lifts, I’ve got a fear of not being able to see an escape."
"It’s not just lifts, it’s the same if there’s too many bubbles in the bath. I can’t put my head under the water as if I opened my eyes I couldn’t see a way out...
'It’s more I like to be able to see how I can escape. I don’t know why my brain works like that. I feel like I’m conquering it but am not completely cured."
You tell 'em, Scarlett!
