It's now been confirmed that Simone Battle, who was in girl band GRL and a finalist on the US X Factor in 2011 has died at the age of 25.

The Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin was behind the girl band, and their first (amazing) UK single, Ugly Heart was released this week. The sad news was broken on instagram overnight and then confirmed by a joint statement today involving Robin Antin, Reign Deer Entertainment, Kemosabe Records and RCA Records.

'We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the loss of Simone Battle of GRL.

Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time.'

Simone was originally going to be a part of the new Pussycat Dolls lineup in 2012, when the creator decided instead that they'd form the next generation of dolls.

The cause of death is yet to be confirmed, but there are rumours that it may have been suicide. All our thoughts are with those who knew Simone, her friends and her family, at this horrible and difficult time.
