Today has been a MASSIVE shock. America voted for a new president and elected Donald Trump over Hilary Clinton – we still CAN’T BELIEVE IT.
While we didn’t see it coming, someone else did – The Simpsons creator Matt Groening. He created an episode 16 years ago that predicted Donald would be president.
BUT, HOW?
In an episode called Bart To The Future we see how the future lives of the main characters could turn out. And, it’s no surprise that we see Lisa Simpson as president - she basically says that Trump left the country in a load of debt.
FUN TIMES.
Earlier this year Matt told The Guardian: “We predicted that he would be president back in 2000 – but [Trump] was of course the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of at the time, and that’s still true. It’s beyond satire.”
And yet here we are, with the butt of the joke – sitting his butt in the White House.
Matt added: “Mr Trump’s election, as horrible as it would be, would be great for comedy.”
We still can’t believe this is happening.
Dan Greaney, a writer for The Simpsons, also commented on the episode earlier this year when talking to The Hollywood Reporter. He said: "That just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom. It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane."
We don’t think that America is going insane, but we’re DEFINITELY questioning their choices today.
Need to take your mind off the election result?
