Sir Ian McKellen is going to be the voice of the talking clock

Excellent news for Lord Of The Rings fans, Ian McKellen fans, and talking clock fans.

Sir Ian McKellen is the new posh voice that reads out the time when you dial 123.

Don’t ask us who actually dials 123 (people without watches or mobile phones? People who have a watch, but one that’s stopped, and need to find out the proper time so they can set the time on the watch? This fascinating list goes on). But people DO. Hell, even we do, one a year, just to check that it’s still there.

And we can’t think of anyone better to do the voice of the talking clock than Sir Ian McKellen.

Sir Ian is going to be doing the honours for Comic Relief.

He said: ''Red Nose Day is a national institution and I'm delighted to be at last making my debut with Comic Relief. As for the Speaking Clock, I hope everyone will give me a call, if they have the time, so to speak.''

Aw, excellent. We’ll have you on speed dial for then, Ian.
