Spencer Matthews’ Made In Chelsea pals show support after drugs confession

Spencer Matthews’ fellow Made In Chelsea stars have shown their support after his departure from the I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! jungle following his drugs confession.

The reality star admitted to bosses he had been using a “steroid-based medication” in a bid to bulk up before he set foot on the set of the show in Australia.

But he left fans wondering what had happened this week when he mysteriously exited with hosts Ant and Dec claiming it was for medical reasons.

After explaining and apologising to friends and family in a statement, Spencer’s Made In Chelsea co-stars took to Twitter to show their support for their friend.

Jamie Laing wrote: “I couldn’t be more proud of @SpencerMatthews my pug. See you soon brother.”

Alex Mytton tweeted: “Hope the jungle gorilla @SpencerMatthews is okay whatever happened!! #ImACeleb.”

Hugo Taylor posted: “Love you always pal! I have more admiration of you than ever. Best friend anyone could ask for. X.”

And Ollie Locke wrote: “Gutted that Spencer’s left the jungle, but I’m delighted to be heading out to the jungle myself next week for the after show panel antics! X.”

Spencer admitted he took the medication, which is banned by major sporting bodies and is renowned for having negative side effects including mood swings and aggression, in a bid to gain strength for a charity boxing match.

Apologising for his actions this week, he tweeted: “I screwed up and have some explaining to do.

“Shortly after I arrived in Australia I told the production team I was taking a steroid-based medication that began some weeks ago. It was in preparation for a charity boxing match which, ironically, never took place.

“Vanity, I suppose, had been the reason. I had intended to come off the pills gradually but there was no time to do this before the jungle.

“My admission to the production team I was still taking these pills led to the conclusion it would be unsafe for me to stay, a decision I found extremely hard to stomach.

“I pushed back but ultimately the show’s duty of care prevailed and bags had to be packed.”

He added: “Taking these pills was a serious error of judgement, which I hugely regret.

“I have disappointed my family, friends and fans and would like to apologise.

“I would like to thank ITV for their support.”
