It’s the biggest movie release of all time (with a predicted gross rate of £1.3 billion) and has already raked in more money than we’ve all had hot dinners but it seems one man in particular is doing very well out of it.
Harrison Ford reprised his role as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and apparently pocketed a pretty pay packet in return for his services. A source from Disney told the MailOnline that 73-year-old star was paid a whopping £23 million to don his Hans Solo gear again. That’s $34 million which also happens to be 70 times more cash than his younger co-stars got paid.
Ford is veritably rolling in it!
The source said, “Harrison is the key to making this movie work. He is the link between the old generation and the new. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were good to get, but the film could have lived without them. You couldn’t make it without Harrison Ford.”
Harrison’s fellow Star Wars actors didn’t get even close to that sort of money. According to the source John Boyega, who plays Finn, and Daisy Ridley, Rey in the flick, netted £300,000. Whilst not bad at all (because they also got to be in the biggest film, like, ever) it doesn’t quite match up to Hazza’s.
But, to be fair, both John and Daisy are relative newcomers and therefore probably pretty happy they even got a role in the major movie.
“Daisy's a virtual unknown, and this is a career-making role,” said the source, “so she'd probably have been willing to take it for free - and Disney knew it.”
Oh, and that’s not all the dollars Mr Ford got.
Harrison got another £1 million in compensation when he suffered a broken leg on set during filming.
The Christmas drinks are on you, HF!
