You know those pictures of Taylor Swift leaving the gym, with perfectly coiffed hair, red lipstick, heels and not a single drop of sweat visible?
Yeah, well, when we worked out with Simone De La Rue (who has worked with Taylor, and also trains the likes of Rosie Huntington-White and Reese Witherspoon) last week, we did not look like that. In fact, as fun as it was (and we did smile throughout thanks to the enthusiasm of pocket rocket Australian Simone) we were sweating within three minutes and our face remained the colour of Tay’s lipstick at least an hour after we’d finished.
Soon as we started breathing normally, we asked Simone (over here in the UK as Under Armour’s new ambassador) for her top tips.
Simone, we are soaked in sweat. What did you do to us?
I was trying to kick the heart rate up first and then you stay in a calorie burning state, so then you burn calories the whole way through the hour
If we do your DVD are we really doing the same routine as celebs like Taylor?
Exactly the same, a lot of them love to dance. You’re getting exactly the same work out
Your celeb clients have a really long and lean silhouette – is that what you aim for?
Yeah, cause everyone’s tryna have the physique of a dancer, which is long lean, sexy muscle.
Do you tell celebs what to eat as well?
It’s actually 80 per cent diet 20 per cent exercise, so they know there’s no point working out and then eating a pizza. I have a cleanse in my book, eliminating sugar, gluten, dairy, alcohol and sodium for two weeks.
How do they get away with Instagramming themselves with cakes and burgers?
Some of them want to appear to be human. I tell them off actually. I’m like, you’re not looking good for me. But that’s life, you want to appear as being relatable.
One of Simone's favourite Under Armour pieces:
Do you think a celeb body is really attainable for a normal person with a job?
I honestly do, if you put in the hard work you’re gonna see the results, if you only do it once a week you’re not gonna see results. All my clients come five times a week.
Are celebs just like normal people when they come to class?
I don’t give them special treatment, some of them feel quite comfortable to come in to class, others feel a little uncomfortable and that’s when they do the one-on-one private sessions.
Are celebs different from us? Are they all super fit?
You know they have to look good for their job, so they have to be motivated. Some of them have a very A type personality and are extremely motivated. Then some just wanna wake up and look fabulous.
You can try Simone's workouts at home with her new DVD
What tip would you give us in the gym?
Think about what muscle group you wanna work that day, so just think about maybe doing tricep dips, chest push ups [for arms] and if the next day you wanna work on your butt, you can do those leg exercises, the next day you do abs. Always try and do some cardio, because we need it for our heart health, also it helps you burn the calories.
**What’s the one mistake women make? **
Especially here in the UK, we all love to drink, so its like, ‘Oh I didn’t eat all day, but then we had three glasses of wine at night’. I always say to my clients, the first thing to cut out is the alcohol, so if you can just drink on a Friday night, the weight loss is incredible.
