In an upcoming interview with Esquire, everyone's favourite bad-boy-turned-golden-boy Tom Hardy revealed he and Leonardo DiCaprio made a bet that, if he got nominated for a Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Revenant, he'd have to get a tatt of Leo's choosing.
Excitingly for him, he did get nominated. Annoyingly for him, the tattoo is so crap that he's sort of putting it off.
"I haven’t got it yet, because it sucks. [DiCaprio] wrote, in this really shitty handwriting: 'Leo knows everything.'" he said. "I was like, 'OK, I’ll get it done, but you have to write it properly.'"
The actor also went onto describe how he never expected to be nominated, because he just doesn't see himself as part of that whole Oscar vibe. Which is difficult to imagine, considering the fact he's one of the best actors working at the moment.
"I don’t think I ever expected to be welcomed to one of those events," he said. "I always felt like a bit of a naughty boy, and I always thought part of me would be like, 'Nah'. And then actually I was like, 'Oh yeah! I’ll have a sniff of that.'"
While he proved that you can be naughty and still excellent in a movie, Tom lost out to Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies (while we love Mark Rylance, we thought Tom definitely deserved it more).
About to star in eight-part series Taboo, he added that he's still recovering from filming The Revenant which, to be fair, did look like it'd be an absolute slog (and cold).
"There are still echoes of exhaustion from it, but I think it’s a beautiful film," he said. "I want to watch it again now because I have got a really healthy distance. It’s always the way, when people say, 'It was a really tough time in my life when I was in it,' in hindsight it’s a very fond memory."
