Former Towie star Danielle Armstrong has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to her best friend of over 20 years, Sammy, after she sadly passed away from a terminal illness last night.

Sharing a video from their recent holiday together as well as pictures from years of friendship, Danielle wrote: “Last Night We Lost A Princess But Heaven Gained An Angel 💔."

Danielle said she and Sammy had been friends for more than 20 years and promised to share her late pal's story with the world.

She posted: "We have been friends for over 20 Years and I can’t even find the words to describe how I’m feeling apart from the fact I’m so blessed an honoured to call you my best friend.

"I take comfort knowing you are no longer in pain but at peace.

"Our beautiful sammy the way you say Danieellleeee and that screaming infectious laugh I will miss so much. You will always be our 5th spice girl and I promise the whole world will get to know your story. Love you always Forever and you will always be in my heart my best friend my sister my sammy our princess 👸 💞 xxx."

This comes as Danielle previously explained to her fans she had been absent on social media after learning about Sam’s diagnosis.

She told her followers: "Lots of you have been messaging me on Instagram, Twitter and emails asking if everything is OK as I’ve been quiet the last 10 days across all my social media.

"My best friend of over 20 years has been told she is terminal and as you can imagine myself our friends & family are heartbroken.

"I cant even find the words to describe the feelings, emotions and pain we are all going through but all I know is we are all staying strong it’s the only thing we can do."
