Tributes have been pouring in for the Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin after a tragic car accident took his life yesterday.
The 27-year-old, who shot to worldwide fame as maths whizz Pavel Chekov in the 2009 reboot of the Star Trek franchise, was found lifeless by friends outside his California home.
It appears that the actor had left his 2.5 ton Jeep running outside the closed gates of his driveway, but somehow got pinned against it and a concrete pillar.
The car was in neutral and the engine was still running when Anton's friends found him around 1am local time on Sunday morning.
Police have confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Zachary Quinto, who played Spock in the films, reminded the world that Anton was "one of the most open and said he was "wise beyond his years".
Anton's director, JJ Abrams, also paid tribute.
"Anton - You were brilliant. You were kind. You were funny as hell, and supremely talented. And you weren't here nearly long enough. Missing you... JJ," he wrote.
George Takei, one of the original Star Trek line-up, said: "Our Star Trek family has lost one of its own. My deepest condolences to his family and friends."
His replacement, John Cho, added:
Anton's publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed his death and said his family requests the public to "respect their privacy at this time".
