With the top vacancy at US Vogue still open after Anna Wintour stepped down as Editor-in-Chief in June, rumours abound that Victoria Beckham could be up for taking over the throne. Speculation was sparked after fashion commentator Osama Chabbi recently posted on X, ‘Victoria Beckham could actually be the perfect fit to lead Vogue. She’s simultaneously popular and unattainable, and she’s also seen as an undebatable arbiter of taste. She’s a Tom Ford in her own way. Call me crazy, but I can sense it.’

While she resigned from being Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief after 37 years at the helm, Anna, 75, will remain the title’s Global Editorial Director. And we’re told that Victoria, 51, would ‘absolutely love’ to take the coveted position at the American edition of the fashion bible.

‘It’s the kind of iconic, career-defining role she’s always quietly dreamed of, and while there haven’t been any talks as yet, just the idea of her potentially taking on the role has got her mind spinning. She’s currently mulling over the idea of having her team reach out,’ our source says.

‘There’s no doubt that being in the job would do wonders for Victoria’s fashion brand. Her label is finally profitable, and being at Vogue would only amplify her credibility in the industry. Taking on the role could propel her business to the level of some of the world’s biggest designer brands, such as Gucci and Chanel, which is her ultimate dream.’

But while she’s been tipped as the ‘perfect fit’, not everyone thinks so, with many fans saying she lacks the experience  and qualifications. ‘She doesn’t care enough for the job demands, the long hours,’ one criticised, with another adding, ‘Her taste is not what Vogue inspires.’

Despite the backlash, there’s no denying Victoria has the style credentials to step into the role, having made the transition from a Spice Girl to a power player in the fashion industry with her label. She’s also friends with Anna, as well as Edward Enninful, who was Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue until last year. Plus, she has graced the cover several times. However, our source adds that Victoria – who’s mum to sons Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and 14-year-old daughter Harper with husband David, 50 – is worried about how the new role would fit around her current commitments with her business and her family.

‘She’s still so hands-on with the business and very present as a mum, especially with Harper, who’s quickly growing up. And she’s very aware that it’s only a few years before she has a fully empty nest, so she wants to make the most of every moment she has with her,’ the insider explains. ‘Taking on something this massive would mean stepping back from both and she’s not sure she’s ready for that. She hasn’t made any decisions, but the fact that people are even talking about her for the job is incredibly flattering and has been a huge confidence boost.’

She has David’s full backing, whatever her decision. ‘David’s always been Victoria’s biggest cheerleader and while he knows she has a lot on her plate, he said even if she takes the role for a couple of years, it could be her greatest challenge yet and be the absolute making of her,’ we’re told. ‘David’s incredibly proud of Victoria and always encourages her to go after what she wants. He knows how much she admires Vogue and how much this would mean to her, so he’s completely in support of it and is quietly encouraging her to reach out to publisher Condé Nast and at least discuss what the job role would actually involve.’

But, the insider adds, ‘He’s also protective of their routine and their lives are carefully balanced between the children, the businesses, and their time together, so he’s aware this would be a huge shift – not only for Victoria, but for the whole family.’
