There’s no denying Victoria Beckham has worked very hard over the years to build up Brand Beckham as an untouchable family business, so doesn’t want anyone or anything to ruin it. But perhaps somebody should tell eldest son Brooklyn as he is said to have upset his mum with rumours he is set to sign up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
“Victoria was really shocked and disappointed when she found out about BBC bosses pursuing Brooklyn for Strictly,” our insider says She just doesn’t want her son going down the route of reality TV, and thinks it goes against everything her and David have worked for in Brand Beckham. She thinks it would be tacky for him to do Strictly and that he should stick to fashion photography and modelling, which mirrors the career path of her and David better.”
Posh – who also has Romeo, 17, Cruz, 14, and eight-year-old Harper with husband David – is also said to be concerned about the infamous Strictly curse and the rumours that could surround Brooklyn, 20, as well as bringing more unwanted speculation on the Beckham family.
“She’s worried about the Strictly curse, of him getting romantic with an older dance partner and being embroiled in a sex scandal that could tarnish Brand Beckham,” we’re told. “She already hates that Brooklyn has a playboy reputation, after he was caught out with a model while still dating Chloe Moretz, and has gone on to date a host of beautiful women [he's currently loved up with US actress Nicola Peltz, 25].
"She thinks that putting Brooklyn in a situation like the Strictly studios is just a recipe for disaster, with all the attractive female dancers that will no doubt be swarming around him. She has even said that she wouldn’t want David going down to the studio every week to support their son as Vic feels that there is a curse for a reason, and some dancers are desperate to cause trouble with big name celebrities – and it doesn’t get any bigger than David Beckham.”
However, David, 44, doesn’t agree with Victoria, 45, and thinks it would be good for Brooklyn – who dropped out of art college in his first year – to learn a different skill and have some more structure in his life.
“David recognises that ballroom dance takes a lot of discipline which he understands as a footballer,” our insider says. “He doesn’t understand why Vic isn’t being more supportive considering she was a dancer herself, but she knows how producers are always picking celebrities for the drama of it all and deliberately pair them up in the hope that romance will blossom. It just plays into all of Vic’s insecurities. She doesn’t want Brooklyn’s love life to become a sordid topic, and she doesn’t want David constantly down at the Strictly studios either, she’s begging Brooklyn to turn it down.

"But unfortunately for Vic, Brooklyn is doing as he pleases these days. He has quite a short attention span when it comes to his career moves. He’s tried his hand at a few things now and nothing seems to stick. That’s why David thinks something like Strictly could make a man out of him, as it will require a lot of hard work and a competitive element he thinks is good for character building.”
