While it’s clear from the many, many comments and posts from Victoria Beckham congratulating her son on his engagement that she’s looking forward to the wedding, we’re told that Posh is not so keen on any other big life changes happening in the near future.
“Posh has been more than enthusiastic about Brooklyn’s wedding – she is 100 per cent behind him settling down with Nicola, and has dismissed anyone’s concerns that he’s too young,” an insider close to the Beckhams tells heat. “But she wasn’t so keen when she heard them talking about kids and is panicking at the thought of him making her a granny soon. She doesn’t feel old enough for that.”
It seems that glamorous fashionista and high-flying businesswoman Vic isn’t ready to add “grandmother” to her business cards just yet. When 21-year-old Brooklyn proposed to girlfriend of nine months Nicola Peltz earlier this summer, he captioned the announcement post, “Two weeks ago, I asked my soulmate to marry me, and she said yes. I am the luckiest man in the world. I promise to be the best husband and the best daddy one day. I love you, baby.”
But according to our source, Brooklyn is keen to start a family with 25-year-old Nicola and become a daddy sooner rather than later. And bearing in mind that Posh turns 47 next spring, she’ll be a very young nan.
“Both Nicola and Brooklyn are from big families and love having lots of siblings,” our insider says. “Brooklyn’s parents were really young when they had him, and he’s loved being close to them and how involved they’ve been. Whereas for Nicola, her parents are older – her mum is in her sixties, while her dad is in his seventies – and both were a little too old to really throw themselves into kiddie things.”
But for Posh, it seems to be a case of “do as I say and not as I did”, as we’re told she’s trying to convince her eldest son not to have kids quite as young as she and David did. She was 24 and David was 23 when Brooklyn was born.
“She’s told Brooklyn and Nicola that they should definitely have a few years together and get their careers well established before they look to have a family,” the source adds. “Babies put even the best marriages under strain, even when you can afford lots of help, and they don’t want Brooklyn to view family life as some kind of fairy tale. Relationships change when babies come along – there’s a whole host of responsibilities and you take on entirely new roles as parents. It’s hard work, and the life that Brooklyn is used to will be gone – no more freedom to travel and live a lifestyle of parties and swanky events.

“They worry that Brooklyn isn’t mature enough for kids. He’s never had to be independent or worry about bills, finances or anything like that. They realise now how protected he has been and how little experience he has of the world. A parent takes on that role for their baby, but if Brooklyn has never even done it for himself, that’s a huge problem.”
The insider continues, “They’re also worried that if Nicola were to get pregnant soon, Brooklyn could become quite isolated over in the US. The couple plan to split their time between LA and NYC, spending as much time in London as they can, but if a baby comes along, then that changes things, and suddenly Brooklyn will end up somewhere without his usual family support system. He grew up in Beverly Hills, so he’s got a good network of friends there from school, but David and Victoria know that’s not the same as having family nearby.”
We’re told David even tried to speak to Brooklyn on the subject father to son, but it didn’t go down well. “David has tried to tackle the issue with him, but it’s ending in heated conversations about how they need to let Brooklyn lead his own life,” the insider reveals. “He is taking it as criticism of his relationship with Nicola, and not as it’s intended.”

Maura Higgins accused of 'smear campaign' against ex Curtis Pritchard
Last week, Nicola and Brooklyn shared snaps from a shopping trip to Victoria’s London store along with Harper Beckham, nine. Nicola showed off her maternal side, doting on Harper and calling her “little sister”. She told fans that they’d had the “best girls’ day”.
But while they are dreamily thinking about parenthood, Victoria is busy worrying about becoming a grandmother in her forties, and understandably, vanity is playing a part in her fears. Just the words “nana” or “granny” conjure up pictures of little old ladies knitting booties – not the look she wants.
“Vic spends a fortune trying to look youthful and be relevant for a younger audience, but if Brooklyn makes her a granny, then it’s over,” we’re told. “She knows she’ll be seen as Granny Beckham and will get all the headlines to match! It wasn’t long ago she was considering one final baby herself – back last year, when her friend Tana Ramsay was pregnant and she was feeling a little broody – so it’s too hard to get her head around the fact she may now be in the granny league.”
