Why Victoria Beckham is putting David on a party ban

It’s official, Christmas party season is well and truly in swing – unless you happen to be David Beckham. Although he is clearly not short of invites, heat has been told wife Victoria has put him on a festive party ban, as she’s worried he won’t have time to spend with her and the kids if he keeps going out with his friends. And, unsurprisingly, it hasn’t gone down that well.

“As Christmas is fast approaching, David and Victoria have been trying to stop bickering about stuff, but lately they’ve been finding it impossible,” our insider says.

“Vic got annoyed when she saw how busy his social calendar was. He’s got nights out planned with his mates Dave Gardner, Guy Ritchie and Gordon Ramsay, and while she doesn’t mind him going out with his friends, she would rather he spent more time with her and the kids."

They continued, "She’s even suggested that they arrange nights out with all his friends and their wives and families, so everyone can join in. But David wants some time with his mates – he feels that he’s worked hard this year and has every right to let loose and enjoy himself.”

As heat reported last week, the couple – who are parents to Brooklyn, 20, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 14, and eight-year-old Harper – have already clashed about where to spend Christmas.

David wants them to go to Miami, as he is launching his own football team there, while Vic wants them to have a traditional Christmas at their Cotswolds home. They’re still said to be at loggerheads over it, and the insider says that Vic trying to rein in David’s partying over the festive season is just causing more tension.

“David’s said he’s not going to ignore invites from his friends, and he also sees this period as a perfect time to promote Brand Beckham, when he’s moving in A-list circles,” our source continues.

“He’s just as excited at spending time with Vic and the children and can’t wait for Christmas with them, but he also sees these nights out as important for his work and the brand. He’s suggested that they at least try to look for a happy medium, rather than implementing a strict ban. He wants them all to enjoy the holiday season.”

However, the insider adds that David’s busy social calendar is just adding to Victoria’s insecurities, as she feels she doesn’t have a lot of her own friends and can sometimes feel lonely. Her closest friends, Eva Longoria and hairdresser Ken Pavés, live in LA, and after refusing to do the Spice Girls reunion tour this year, she thinks she’ll be left out of the band’s meet-ups.

“Vic’s always complaining that she doesn’t have a group of close confidantes like David has,” says the source.

“She thinks the Spice Girls will be meeting up to celebrate their reunion success and she won’t be invited – and she totally accepts that.

"But it makes her feel sad that she doesn’t always have a friendship group that’s as strong as it could be, which is why she leans on David to spend the majority of his time with her and the kids. She would never stop him having fun, but would sometimes like to be a bit more involved with his social life.”
