While it seems Victoria and David Beckham are thrilled that youngest son Cruz is set to release new music, we’re told they’re also extremely fearful of the inevitable nepo baby accusations coming his way – with VB, in particular, concerned that her own solo-career flop could come back to haunt him.
‘David and Victoria are excited that Cruz is pursuing his passion with music – they would never discourage any of their kids from following their dreams,’ an insider tells heat. ‘However, Vic is very anxious about how her own musical past will affect his efforts, as there will no doubt be mentions of his mum being a Spice Girl – and she’s hoping the less said about her solo stuff, the better.’
Victoria, 50, released her first single – the under-appreciated Out Of Your Mind – in collaboration with singer-songwriter Dane Bowers and Truesteppers in 2000, three years after she met David, now 49. Following a close chart battle, the song lost out on the top spot to Spiller and Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love). This was followed by her next single, Not Such An Innocent Girl, which charted at number six. Vic then released her self-titled solo album in October 2001, which reached number 10 and was widely considered a flop.

Our source says, ‘Vic knows her work as a solo artist wasn’t the strongest and she’s worried that could hurt Cruz’s credibility. Her album barely managed to sell 50,000 copies, and Vic’s joked that any musical talent Cruz has didn’t come from her. She’s told him that, if he wants to take any lessons from her experiences, it’s that you have to work hard for success. She just doesn’t want to be the reason he’s held back.’
Cruz, 19 – who is currently dating 29-year-old singer Jackie Apostel – has been serious about music for a long time. Back in 2016, he released the charity Christmas single If Every Day Was Christmas, aged 11. Now, unlike his mum, Cruz is focusing on becoming an indie artist.
Although he has yet to release any of his latest music officially, he has teased various snippets on social media, including one recent one, in which he crooned, ‘I wanna be John Lennon’. Despite no full songs being available yet, Cruz is reportedly already signed to the music management company C3, who have worked with US indie group The Strokes.

We’re told, ‘Cruz wants to be taken seriously as an artist – his parents have put a lot of money into his writing and recording sessions, as they want him to do well. They believe he has talent, so they’ve tried to connect him with some great musicians who will bring out the best in him.’
The source adds that the couple are also worried about Cruz being ridiculed in the same way as his oldest brother Brooklyn, 26, who has been mercilessly mocked for his attempts at becoming a celebrity chef and food influencer. Brooklyn’s other stalled career efforts also include photography and modelling – and our source says Victoria and David are concerned that too much hate from the public could put Cruz off.

‘They’re worried Cruz could get teased like Brooklyn has for his cooking,’ says the insider.
‘They don’t want this to be another expensive fad – , and music isn’t the type of career that you can just dabble in. If you want to be successful, you need to give it your full focus,’ we’re told. ‘Victoria knows first-hand just how tough the industry can be. She knew it wasn’t for her, which is why she went into fashion, so she’s really keen on guiding Cruz in any way she can.’
The source adds, ‘Both David and Vic want to be able to hold their heads up high and say their son gave it his best shot. They’ll be proud of him, no matter what, as long as he puts in the hard work.’
