WAG Victoria Beckham makes her comeback

Out with the high-necks and in with the short shorts

Victoria Beckham WAG at World Cup

She single-handedly launched the WAG look in the early to mid-noughties, thanks to her love of hair extensions, designer shades, tight clothes and “bazooka” boobs. But as she reinvented herself as a fashion designer, Victoria Beckham ditched that over the years in favour of a much higher-end couture look.

And while it may have won her the respect of her peers, we’re told she feels it has alienated a lot of her fans and she now thinks she should go back to roots to get the public back on side, following her furloughing controversy.

“Vic has desperately been trying to get her popularity rising again – she’s devised a plan to push herself as being more relatable and likeable,” says heat’s insider.

“And that starts with a complete overhaul of her look. Vic has been styling her hair like she had it in 2006, and trying to make herself look less ‘fashion’. She’s realised that she’s alienating fans, who see her as part of the wealthy elite, and she wants to remind people that she’s a Hertfordshire girl at heart who isn’t as ‘Posh’ as people think.”

Victoria got a lot of flak for her makeup here - but this dress from her own collection is gorgeous

Mum-of-four Victoria – who found herself under fire recently when it was revealed her company was furloughing staff during lockdown, before backtracking – was the undisputed “Queen of the WAGs” when husband David was England captain and her look was copied by millions of women. She has previously spoken about her “torpedo bazookas” and would often have them on display.

That all changed after Vic launched her fashion label in 2008, but now she thinks it’s time to get a bit of that back. She has already been showing off her new hairstyle on Instagram – complete with blonde highlights – and even posed in a pair of denim hot pants, which could have come straight from the glory days of Baden Baden in 2006.

“She’s been telling David they need to be sharing more banter with each other on social media,” our source adds. “She wants to show her goofy side and change this perception of her as being some kind of fashion ice queen. She wants fans to be able to relate to her again.”
