How Victoria and David Beckham stole the show at Brooklyn’s 21st

Most 21 year olds would not be thrilled at the thought of their mum and dad hogging the limelight at their milestone birthday celebrations. But when your parents are David and Victoria Beckham, you’ve not got much choice.

Last week saw Brooklyn Beckham celebrate his big day with friends and family at the family’s £6m Cotswolds home, but it was the snaps of his parents that really got tongues wagging.

In photos posted on the family’s various social media accounts, David, 44, and Victoria, 45, were snapped in a series of romantic clinches – with David even reaching down for a cheeky grope of his wife’s bum in one pic. And while some commenters deemed the uncommonly intimate pictures “over-the-top” and “all fake”, we’re told the couple were having an absolute ball.

“It may have been Brooklyn’s night, but it was David and Vic’s boozy PDAs and raucous dancing that had everyone talking,” an insider tells heat. “While it was primarily a party for Brooklyn and his mates, David and Victoria made sure plenty of their friends were invited, so that it was a fun night out for them, too. In fact, it was the ‘oldies’ who kept the party going until 6am.”

The lavish bash was OTT extravagant – at a rumoured cost of £100k, paid for by Mum and Dad – with huge marquees set up on the family’s estate to house the guests. London restaurant Mac & Wild were the caterers, serving up hog roast and fresh smoked salmon, while guests also got to grips with a Tequila luge sculpted to look like a vintage camera.

The entertainment was suitably impressive, too, with a surprise performance from Stormzy, who later took eight-year-old Harper for a spin on the dance floor.

Our source says that David and Victoria – who married three months after Brooklyn was born in 1999 – were thrilled to be able to celebrate together as a family.

“Both Vic and David were in the mood to party, so they decided to go large on the celebrations. Having Brooklyn turn 21 was a momentous life event for them, so as well as raising lots of toasts to him, they were celebrating together, too – particularly after the launch of David’s football team in Miami a week earlier. It felt like a huge celebration of everything they’ve achieved family and career wise.”

And while the couple were aware all eyes were on them – they are always camera-ready, obvs – our insider says they were genuinely enjoying each other’s company.

“They don’t often get the chance to party like that, with so many family and friends, and when they do, people see a very different side to them. They really let their hair down and the alcohol definitely helped fuel the over-the-top PDAs.”

Fans commented that it seemed a bit one-sided, with Victoria looking like she was “clinging on to him for dear life”, while David was looking, “awkward”, but our source says the couple are actually happier than they have been in a long time.

“People were saying how good it was to see that whatever troubles David and Vic have had these past few years, they seem like they’re in a really good place at the moment and having a lot of fun – just like in the old days,” we’re told. “They also spent a lot of the night together, which was a nice change, as David usually hangs out with his mates while Vic mingles. The pictures might look like Vic was the one who was draped all over him, but David was being pretty tactile, too.”

Posh also made sure she did her fair share of being an embarrassing mum for Brooklyn, dancing alongside his girlfriend Nicola Peltz, who posted the video online, captioning it, “Learning from the queen herself”. Wise girl – always keep your mother-in-law on side.

Our insider says Brooklyn jokily tried to get his parents to tone it down a bit. “Victoria can be a bit of an embarrassing mum sometimes, but it was a case of embarrassing parents for Brooklyn. He tried getting rid of them, even shooing them off the dance floor! But Nicola told him to chill out and appreciate how excited his parents were to celebrate his big day with him. Brooklyn is used to his mum and dad stealing the show. It can grate on him that his parents are such big personalities and he often has to play second fiddle, even when it’s supposed to be his night. But he loves them to bits, so he always ends up laughing it off.”

As well as close family members – Brooklyn’s siblings, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15, and Harper were all there – Victoria invited a few celeb guests along, too. In a mini Spice Girls reunion, both Emma Bunton and Geri Horner were there showing off their ’90s moves, as well as David’s best friend, Dave Gardner.

Victoria clearly felt good about herself, posting a pic of her tight PVC trousers and white shirt unbuttoned before the party. Then the day after, she shared a picture of herself in a tracksuit – no doubt feeling the effects of a heavy weekend – while David jetted off to Florida, resuming his duties as owner of football team Inter Miami. But we’re told it’ll be a night to remember for the couple.

“They don’t often get to do this, so that’s partly why they just went for it. Victoria loves throwing a party and had been planning this with Brooklyn for ages. She knows it will be a while before they get to have fun like that again.”
