While the Beckhams' property portfolio is already worth a whopping £73million, it seems it’s not quite enough for David and Victoria Beckham. The couple are said to be eyeing up an incredible waterfront villa in Miami, worth a cool $80million (£60m) – a slight upgrade from the £17million condo they currently own in the Florida city.
‘If they are doing Miami, then they want to do it in style. They want a big waterfront house with the boat parked outside – a house they can entertain in and live life the way they want to,’ an insider tells heat. ‘Victoria and David love how proud everyone is of their wealth in Miami. It’s all about “If you’ve got it, flaunt it”.’
The Beckhams are preparing to put down roots in the US city, where David owns soccer team Inter Miami, after growing to love the area. As well as the football link, eldest son Brooklyn, 25, and wife Nicole Peltz are frequent visitors – Nicola’s billionaire parents own a lavish estate in Palm Beach, just north of Miami – while youngest son Cruz, 19, is also now based in America.
David and Victoria mostly split their time between their £31m London townhouse and £12m Cotswolds farmhouse – a long way from David’s first flat in Salford, which cost him just £150,000 – as daughter Harper, 13, is still at school. But heat’s insiders say the couple have fallen in love with Miami life, and think this new house will take them to the next level there.
‘In typical VB style, she wants a place that will have everybody envious,’ we’re told. ‘She wants to start throwing parties that will have everyone begging for an invite, something that will be really befitting of her growing fashion and beauty empire. They now have a social scene to keep up with, and Victoria likes to be the one setting the standards.’
Our source adds, ‘In Miami, they’re surrounded by the crème de la crème – celebrities, sports stars, entrepreneurs — their social circle is a list of who’s who, and they love it. And now they really want to show they have arrived there, and in Miami circles, nothing makes more of a statement than a property like this. David and Vic were always being invited to these amazing parties in waterfront homes, and they were feeling a little like the Airbnb people with their condo. They’ve been looking for a few months now, as they really wanted something that made a statement — something bigger and more sought after than anything else, and this is the one.’
The mega-mansion comes with nine bedrooms and a reflective infinity pool along the 124ft water frontage. It also comes with a gym, spa, movie theatre and a chef’s kitchen. But they don’t just want the Miami mansion to elevate their social status, they also want somewhere that can host the entire family. With three of their children having left home – Romeo, 22, has his own place in London – it’s more important than ever to have a huge base for Beckham reunions.
‘They love the idea of having a place that is big enough that all the adult children and their families can gather there, with space to allow them to do their own thing, yet still together,’ we’re told. ‘Vic was getting emotional about the kids having flown the nest, and so it’s important to have this big family place. She wants them to feel that they will always have a home here.
‘When things were tense with Nicola and Brooklyn after the wedding, the newlyweds came to London but stayed in a hotel — they felt it would be too awkward in the London house as it was small. Victoria wants to make sure that’s never an issue again.’
