Inside the Beckhams’ secret escape

They love a New Year getaway and despite the pandemic putting the brakes on life for the rest of us, David and Victoria Beckham wanted to make sure that they saw in 2021 in style – by flying to Miami for a big party.

Along with children Brooklyn, 21, Romeo, 18, Cruz, 15, and nine-year-old Harper, they flew to Miami by private jet on Christmas Day (to avoid breaking new travel restrictions coming in the next day) to stay with Brooklyn’s fiancée Nicola Peltz and her billionaire family in their £30million mansion.

And now the UK has gone into full lockdown again, they’ve decided to stay there until the end of next month as they can home school the kids and David can work with his football team, Inter Miami.

"David and Victoria had been planning this trip for months,” a source told a newspaper last week. “David needed to be in Miami in January on Inter Miami duty because it's the start of the MLS pre-season, and he is helping recruit new players. He also hadn’t been able to get there since last March due to restrictions, so it was an important trip. After spending Christmas morning at their Cotswolds home – which was Tier Two at the time – they all took Covid tests before safely flying from a local airport via private jet to Florida. Once in the US, Brooklyn was reunited with Nicola, and the two families spent some lovely quality time together.”

Although Victoria, 46, and David, 45, are adamant they did nothing wrong, it was clear they didn’t want their followers to know they had jetted out of the UK. They had been keeping a suspiciously low-profile on Instagram after wishing everyone a happy Christmas along with a family picture of them matching pyjamas. On 29 December, Victoria posted a picture of herself dressed up and appearing to be at their Cotswolds home, saying, “I’m not doing much but f*** it I still want to look nice this New Year’s Eve.”

And our source says they are not ashamed of what they’ve done, claiming it was essential for them to be there and party with Nicola’s family, who are very influential and know a lot of the right people in Miami.

“The trip to Miami was for work purposes and the party was 'a business engagement,” we’re told. “It was essential for them to build relationships for the new football team, and their presence was required. They could not afford to miss the opportunity to be introduced to critical people in Miami and the future of the football club depended on it. And now they will make the most of it while they are still in Miami.”

We’re told it was also so Brooklyn could see Nicola, 24, after they'd spent weeks apart.

“Brooklyn has fallen under the spell of the glamorous jetsetting billionaire Peltz family,” our insider adds. “It's high octane with Nicola's family, they like to live it up and spend money – fancy hotels, fast cars, helicopters and private jets everywhere. Brooklyn adores his family, and hero-worships his parents, but he was desperate to get back to Nicola and felt suffocated at times. He was really bored in the countryside, especially as he was getting constant updates from Nicola and all the fun and antics they were up to.”

Just a shame mum and dad will be cramping his style for a little while longer then...
