Why is Nicole being put forward for this role?

Well, apparently it's all down to one of the show's current judge's, Will.i.am, who sang her praises.

And now the former Pussycat Doll is set to fly into the UK this week for talks with BBC chiefs.

"Nicole is meeting with some of the top producers on The Voice this week to discuss the prospect of her replacing Rita," a BBC source told the newspaper.

"Will.i.am, who is our most popular coach, is very close friends with Nicole and has been lobbying hard for her to join the panel. Andrew Lloyd Webber has also sung her praises because of her talent and passion for mentoring young acts.

"However, a formal decision will not be made until later down the line, as she continues to be in talks over the potential role," continued the source.

The source added: "Nicole is very experienced and popular. Her team believe she's distanced herself from X Factor enough while she's concentrated on her solo music career to be able to join another show. She definitely wants to do it."

Simon Cowell will continue to take his seat on The X Factor judging panel and will be joined by Rita, Nick Grimshaw and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.
