Standard WAG expenditure is usually limited to designer handbags and luxury holidays. But these days, Coleen Rooney’s also has to cover a whole lot of legal fees. As the star’s court battle with Rebekah Vardy continues and the costs sky rocket, it seems her husband’s had just about enough.
Friends tell us the footballer -turned-manager is so concerned, he’s suggested Coleen curbs her “frivolous spending” – starting now.
“Coleen never thought this saga would drag on for so long or get so expensive,” says an insider close to the mum of four, who is being sued by Becky for libel after she famously accused “.......Rebekah Vardy’s account” of leaking stories about her, which Becky denies.
“Now Wayne has put his foot down, saying she has to limit her other spending until they know the full damage of the trial.
“He’s never questioned anything she’s bought before – whether it was her trips to Barbados or building their dream home from scratch – but now the legal fees are getting out of hand. Neither of them know when things are going to end and he’s getting worried.”
Lawyer fees in the ongoing battle – set to finally reach trial in May – are thought to have reached half a million apiece for Coleen, 35, and Rebekah, 40, and that’s before you even get to the settlement figure.
Although beach-lover Coleen has ditched Barbados to take her sons to Blackpool or Butlin’s since the covid crisis began, insiders say she isn’t ready to give up her luxuries just yet.

“She’s furious with Wayne for suggesting this,” says our source close to the style icon, who married her childhood sweetheart in 2008.
“She’s had his full support this whole time, but now it feels like he’s backtracking. She reminded him he knew it could get expensive when he agreed to let her fight Becky’s defamation suit. She doesn’t see why she should have to give up on her luxury lifestyle or be the one who’s punished when she’s done nothing wrong. If anything, they need cheering up right now more than ever!
"But Wayne can’t quite get his head around how fast the money is going. He’s worked hard for his fortune and while they’re still very wealthy, he doesn’t want to throw money away.”
And pals say things will only get worse as the court date draws closer. We’re told, “Wayne’s not the only one who wishes they could just hash it out face-to-face. Friends keep asking at what point Coleen will say enough is enough. She’s well aware that there are far more important things going on in the world and doesn’t really want this to go to court, but it’s not up to her as she’s not the one who sued in the first place.”
