The Wealdstone Raider – a 48–year–old man who rose to fame in a viral video for being drunk and abusive during a lower league football match – leapt up EIGHT places in the charts last night, entering the Top 5.

Now the possibility he could actually challenge Ben Haenow for the Christmas Number 1 is looking more real than ever.

Gordon Hill - yeah, his name isn’t actually Wealdstone Raider, sorry - and his single, Got No Fans, initially shot into the Top 40 overnight. X Factor winner Ben still leads the charts with his single, Something I Need, followed by Mark Ronson and Bruno Marrs with Uptown Funk. Then in third place it’s Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud and Olly Murs’ Up ft Demi Lovato.

Profits from Gordon’s track, Got No Fans, will be split between Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, Wealdstone Raiders Youth FC and Autism Concern.

Speaking to The Mirror, the Raider said: “Simon Cowell, I’m after you. I want it. You’ve got no fans. I’m coming for Christmas Number 1. Simon Cowell do you want some? I’ll give it to you!”

It wouldn’t be the first time a wild card has trumped Simon's infamous domination of the Christmas Number 1 slot. Back in 2009 a campaign to make Rage Against The Machine’s classic F**k You, I Won’t Do What You Tell Me triumphed, resulting in the band reforming and touring again the following year.

In 2011, Military Wives - a British choir made up of the wives, partners and British servicewomen - teamed up with Gareth Malone to take the top spot. And in 2012, The Justice Collective who were raising money for the families of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster topped the charts.

Who do you think should get Xmas number 1?
