Will Young quit Strictly Come Dancing in an email after assuming he wasn't going to win, new reports have claimed today.

The singer, who still hasn't revealed the "personal reasons" behind why he left, will have his pay slashed from £25,000 to just £5,000 for breaking his contract – and his professional partner Karen Clifton is said to be "seething".

An insider told The Sun: "It became obvious that despite his huge dance background he was never going to be a contender because there are so many better celebs.

"The few previous contestants to go have quit because they're injured or a family member has died – not because they feel they can't win."

The newspaper claims Will's mini-beef with Len Goodman at the weekend only undermined his confidence more – and after seeing how many of the celebrities were getting high scores, Will apparently decided he didn't want to be part of the show anymore.

An email was then sent to Strictly producers and Will quit the show.

However, there's been plenty of speculation about his reasons for going, including fears over the health of his brother.

Eagle-eyed staff have noticed that Will is the only contestant not to have had his family cheering him on from the audience, even though his parents live in nearby Berkshire.

In a statement released when he left, Will said appearing on Strictly had been a big ambition of his and thanked Karen for teaching him "three wonderful dances that I will be able to show my grandkids in years to come".

He added: "I leave with joy in my heart that I have been able to take part in one of the most loved shows on British television."

The BBC has said it's unable to comment on any contestants' contract.
