Willow Smith's hitting the headlines a lot lately. Not only has she just released new track 't r a n s p a r e n t s o u l' (try searching for that on Spotify after a few fizzy waters) with blink-182 drummer and Kourtney Kardashian's new beau Travis Barker; but she's also opened up about her unconventional relationships.

Chatting to her mum Jada Pinkett-Smith on her Facebook Watch show Red Table Talk, Willow revealed she's polyamorous; aiming to break any stigma surrounding non-monogamous relationships.

So, what exactly is polyamory?

Polyamory involves having a consentual relationship with more than one partner at a time, on the agreement of all parties involved.

What did Willow Smith say about being polyamorous?

Chatting candidly to mum Jada and grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Norris on Red Table Talk, Willow explained, "With polyamory, I feel like the main foundation is the freedom to be able to create a relationship style that works for you and not just stepping into monogamy because that’s what everyone around you says is the right thing to do."

She continued, "So I was like, how can I structure the way that I approach relationships with that in mind? Also, doing research into polyamory, the main reasons why monogamous relationships - or why marriage - why divorces happen is infidelity."

Insisting that being polyamorous doesn't mean she's more sexually active, Willow added, "In my friend group, I’m the only polyamorous person...and I have the least sex out of all of my friends."

This isn't the first time Willow Smith's spoken about her lifestyle choice. Back in a 2019 episode of Red Table Talk, she expressed an interest in exploring the world of polyamory.

She said, "I’m not the kind of person that is constantly looking for new sexual experiences. I focus a lot on the emotional connection and I feel like if I were to find two people of the different genders that I really connected with and we had a romantic and sexual connection, I don’t feel like I would feel the need to try to go find more."

Does this mean Willow's ruled out getting married like parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith?

“Let’s say me and my partner or partners wants to help people," she said, "and we need to put our finances together in order to make that vision happen. That’s the only way I could see myself getting married."
