When Mel B hosted the MOBO Awards this week she came face to face with* X Factor* contestant Fleur East.
Fleur attended the show with Mel’s boys; Jake Quickenden, Paul Akister, Jack Walton and Andrea Faustini.
But if you remember from last Saturday’s show, Fleur took a bit of a knocking from Mel, who said: “That was a great performance. My only thing is, on that chorus, I didn't hear your voice. It was like it was full of backing track and backing vocals. I find that a little bit cheating.” OUCH.
So we caught up with Fleur backstage at the MOBO Awards to ask if she had bumped into Mel B yet and whether the ex-Spice Girl had apologised. She told us: “I didn’t even realise Mel said the word cheating until I saw the first article and it actually dawned on me, and I was like, ‘Oh actually that was quite hurtful’. I have seen Mel…but I haven’t actually spoken to her about it. She just said, ‘Hey girl’ and I said, ‘Hey, hey, I still love you Mel’. She didn’t have any apologies to make after last Saturday’s show, it’s all good – the love is still there.”
Hmm… really? So, you’re still not even a little bit peeved? Fleur added: “You’re always going to get critique especially because the competition is so tough and you’ve got these lot here [other contestants] that are really talented. You’ve got to expect some criticism. She did say she didn’t diss the performance but that she just couldn’t really hear me on the chorus. So this week I’m just working on it, making sure I can definitely be heard. I’ll have to sing a capella. I’m so happy that I’ve got Simon [Cowell], just the fact that he’s got my back feels so good. Everyone’s getting more focused now, the competition is sinking in, everyone’s going to bed earlier.”
