X Factor winner Matt Cardle had a bit of a time of it after winning the show – and subsequently got lumbered with that pesky winner’s curse thing.

You know – where he was massively hyped by Cowell and co, then didn’t do so well with the actual singing career. See also: Shayne Ward, Leon Jackson and Sam Bailey.

And in January last year he entered rehab for an addiction to prescription drugs Valium and Temazepam.

But after a tricky few years it looks like Matt has finally found his feet in showbiz – he’s got a part in Memphis The Musical.

Matt has got the role of Huey, starring opposite Beverley Knight – for three months.

Oh, and Matt will be taking his top off. Which is an obvious bonus.

“It’s a great unknown for me, especially the acting side,” Matt told the Evening Standard. “I haven’t been so scared of anything since* X Factor*. But anything that scares you is good for you.

“I’ve been a musician all my life and I never thought I would go on X Factor and look where that got me? So I’m super-nervous but also excited.”

Good on you, Matt. Now get working on that six pack, yeah?
