YouTube star Zoella smashes records with her debut book Girl Online

Girl Online sold 78,109 copies last week!

YouTube megastar Zoella has smashed records with her first book – a novel called Girl Online.

The 24-year-old has had the highest first-week book sales for a debut author, and with 78,109 copies sold last week, Girl Online has sold more than early sales of the first books of EL James, JK Rowling and Dan Brown, said The Bookseller.

The novel tells the story of Penny – a teenager who blogs about her hidden feelings on friendship, boys and anxieties.

Zoella – real name Zoe Sugg – said of the incredible book sales: “It’s such an amazing feeling. This year has been so exciting and this for sure is the icing on the cake.”

Publisher Francesca Dow, of Penguin Random House, told* The Sun*: “This is truly an outstanding accomplishment.”
