In an extract from his autobiography Z, Zayn Malik has opened up about the inspiration behind his album Mind Of Mine and reveals his sole intention was to make his dad proud.

Excuse us while we just ball our eyes out for a second.

In the book, the former One Direction singer also talks about why he left the band and his struggles with not being able to sing about sex while part of 1D.

We feel your pain, Zayn. We're pretty sure we'd be out of a job if we couldn’t write about sex – or HUGE peens

Anyway, back to the matter at hand: in the extract of the book focusing on Zayn's new music, the signer talks about a track from his debut solo album entitled Intermission: Flower.

The song is a tribute to Zayn's father and is sung in Urdu, a standardised variation of the Hindustani language.

Zayn says he wanted to make his dad proud with the album in general, and with this song in particular.

holds back tears

In an extract of the book published in Rolling Stone, Zayn explains how important it was for him to earn his dad's approval and make a tribute to him with this album.

He writes: "One day when I was working with Malay, we got talking about my dad. I was telling Malay about my relationship with him and how important it was for me to do well for him, to earn his approval.

"My dad's a hard worker and he has strong values…He wanted the best for me, and I wanted to please him in return… I wanted to show him, as much as everyone else, that I could do it".

OK. Actual tears.

Talking about Intermission: Flower in particular he added: "I was just riffing lyrics in Urdu over Malay's looped guitar, and we got it down."
