Zayn Malik has openly admitted he smokes marijuana, insisting it helps with his songwriting.
And while Zayn has now confirmed he’s been smoking the illegal drug “for a while”, he wants to discourage his fans from doing the same.
He told NME: “I’ve probably been smoking for a while. I don’t want say when I started because I don’t want to influence anyone else. That’s just something I do myself.
“It helps sometimes with the creative process, if you’re smoking a good weed.”
However, Zayn also has other ways of relaxing – he has installed his own private bar in his back garden as a tribute to his grandparents who once owned a pup called The Bradford Arms.
And the musician seems to be quite the talent when it comes to DIY as he built it all himself.
He said: “It’s in tribute to my granddad. I bought the bits from Homebase. I put it all together. I decided to turn it into a pub. I like f*cking around with the nail gun.”
While he may live the life of a famous pop star, Zayn insists he is still able to walk around his home town of Bradford as if he is just any other member of the public.
He said: “When I go back to Bradford, I just put my dad’s coat on and walk about. People don’t expect it to be me.”
Meanwhile, the star admits most of his ex 1D bandmates aren't likely to visit him at home any time soon – he only speaks to Liam Payne after his departure from the group.
“I’m still probably the closest to Liam,” he said. “We talk on the phone. He congratulated me on my single [Pillowtalk], which was nice. I congratulated him on his BRIT award. It was a good chat. We haven’t met up in a long time so we want to meet up.”
On the rest of the band, he added: “I tried to have contact but nobody’s reached out. So... whatever.”
