Zayn Malik’s sister Doniya talks about Zayn’s ‘overwhelming’ fame and Perrie Edwards

Some people dream about being a world famous superstar. The money, the adoring fans and being able to walk into anywhere you fancy and being treated like royalty. But is it all that it’s cracked up to be? This level of super-stardom hit Zayn Malik when he was made part of One Direction on The X Factor back in 2010.

We’ve seen Zayn go through some incredible highs (five albums in five years, falling in love with pop-princess Perrie Edwards) and some lows (leaving the OTRA tour with stress before finally quitting). But one person who knows him the best is his older sister, Doniya.

Earlier this week, Doniya – who’s a beauty blogger – gave her first interview with the BBC’s Asian Network and revealed how hard Zayn has found the fame.

“At the beginning when it first started out, I think I was 18, it was all kind of surreal and weird,” Doniya said. “As time goes on you get used to it [but] yeah it is overwhelming – it’s something that doesn’t really hit you. I never thought my brother would be in the world’s biggest boy-band… You’ve just got to go along with it.”

Doniya also spoke about Zayn finding love with Perrie and admitted she was like a sister to her. She added: “Perrie’s pretty cool, she’s a really nice girl, really friendly, she’s down to earth, it’s like it is with my sisters. [I’m] very happy [she’ll be my sister in law] – she’s a very nice girl.”
