As we’ve seen on Celebrity Gogglebox, the bond between Nick Grimshaw and his niece Liv is a strong one, with the pair making us snort with laughter at their banter.
The DJ/presenter, 40, and his 30-year-old niece have become firm fan favourites since starting on the hit show in 2019. We caught up with them at eBay’s Listings In Lights event in London, where they told us all about their Christmas plans and more…
What do you love about Christmas?
Nick: I love the whole thing. We always have a good family Christmas in Manchester. I love the idea of everyone getting together. I also love the shopping. When I was little, I used to mark what I’d get everyone in a catalogue.
Who does the cooking?
N: My mum excels at a Sunday roast, so I feel like Christmas Day is her Super Bowl of Sunday roasts. Like, she goes for it! I can’t wait, I love it. I’m going to do Christmas Eve dinner this year.
Who’s the hardest to shop for out of you both?
Liv: Me.
N: You are. Liv has a face she can’t hide. You know within a millisecond if she doesn’t like it, even if she’s like, ‘Oh, that’s nice’. Now, I’ll say, ‘Just tell me what you want and I’ll get it’. Last year, I said, ‘I want to get you a bag, but I daren’t pick it. So, let’s go Christmas shopping together’. That turned into a nice activity – we spent the day together, mooched around and argued in the department store.
Nick, you’ve got lots of showbiz friends like Rita Ora and Harry Styles. What do you buy someone like Harry?
N: I don’t buy presents for my friends.
L: Where do you draw the line?
N: You can’t, so I stick to family and my friends’ kids. But now everyone’s having kids, so it’s a full-time job, getting everyone a Christmas present.
What’s the worst present you’ve ever received?
N: My mum once got me a framed picture of my rejection letter for work experience from Radio 1, which she thought was funny. It was quite traumatic to receive that.
L: The worst gift I ever received was a doll when I was young. I opened it and screamed, threw it across the room and ran out. I wouldn’t go in that room for the rest of the day.
Finally, did you expect to be such big hits on Celebrity Gogglebox?
L: Not at all. I love the show so much. We’re so lucky we get to hang out and watch telly.
N: For sure. I love doing it and watching the show – just not when I’m on it!
Nick and Liv Grimshaw opened eBay’s Listing In Lights in London. All proceeds from their Listing In Lights sales will go to The Albert Kennedy Trust.
