If you're watching Love Island this summer, you won't need us to tell you that series 12 has delivered some of the most compelling and captivating reality telly scenes in recent years. The series swiftly silenced the growing belief that Love Island was getting, well, old hat. Boring, babe.

You also won't need us to tell you that Love Island 2025 has, in a disappointing and worrying turn, given us some of the most controversial and talked about scenes and characters in the show's history, and yes, we're obviously talking about the behaviour of some of the men on this show this year.

For weeks now, the series has been called out by social media users and charities like Women's Aid for scenes of 'emotional manipulation' and downright 'misogyny' at the hands of some of the Love Island 2025 boys, with the show receiving approximately 2,200 Ofcom complaints so far.

Don't get us wrong, some of the girls have been far from saints either, but the words and actions of some of the Love Island boys is under a burning-hot spotlight, and rightly so. Frankly, it's a bigger problem than Love Island, but one that Love Island needs to be looking at internally.

One of the most controversial figures of the current series is undoubtedly recently-dumped OG Ben Holbrough.

During his time on the show, he came under fire for his, at times, extremely immature behaviour and the disrespectful way he spoke to the like of Yasmin Pettet and Toni Laites in arguments, with Maya Jama even having to step in and shut Ben's comments down in a recent recoupling (something we've never seen from the Love Island host).

So, we'll be honest, when we learned Ben was coming into heat Towers to have his say on the backlash, we were extremely sceptical and conflicted, but we were keen to hear how he's reacted to the outcry and curious to see whether it had sparked any sort of epiphany or change.

Speaking about watching himself back now he's returned to the UK, Ben admitted, 'With the arguments...it definitely gave me chance to reflect on how I was in there.

'Because when you have arguments and you speak a certain type of way on the outside, you never actually get to see it back for yourself and actually see how you sound. So for me, it was a very big lesson and it's very important I've seen that. It's definitely showed me how I need to be in certain situations and how I can't be in certain situations.'

He continued, 'I'm glad I've cleared the air with everyone in there now and left on good terms with everyone, but yeah, it was a massive lesson for me; being able to watch it back definitely helped me self-reflect.'

We have to say, we did feel genuine remorse coming from Ben when he spoke these words. Everyone in the room felt it, but, let's be honest, this is a bigger problem here than just one man pledging to do better.

This is about serious systematic change.
