While she may have been pipped to the post to win Love Island by pals Millie Court and Liam Reardon, we all thought Chloe Burrows had found her happily ever after in boyfriend Toby Aromolaran. The pair were runners up in the 2021 show and went on to share their post-villa life together with fans via social media. But, in October 2022, the couple split.
Speaking to Olivia Attwood on Surf’s Come Clean in 15, Chloe, 29, reveals she was ‘terrified’ of the news being announced to the world.
‘I just went to my mum’s, and I was just in shock. I think I just stayed in bed. I don't even think I changed my knickers for a week. I was so scared of going outside.’
But fast-forward three years and Chloe is smitten with new boyfriend Ruben Moreira, and luckily, she didn’t have to go all the way to Mallorca to find him.
‘He’s actually Liam’s best friend’, Chloe explains. ‘He’s Welsh and Portuguese. We met a few years ago, fancied each other, but then I got too drunk, embarrassed myself, and he thought, what a mess, which is so fair. But then we actually met again in Australia. I went out there with Liam and Millie and he just decided to fly out as well. Out of everyone we were like the two single ones so we just started snogging and never stopped… which is cool.’
And while Chloe may have entered the spotlight via Love Island 2021, Ruben is firmly out of the spotlight – the man even has a private Instagram, can you believe?
So when it came to hard launching her new relationship, Chloe had a bit of a dilemma on her hands, telling Olivia, ‘One thing about me is I'm full of shit, right? So, when I said I'm never going to date in the public eye or I'm never going to post anyone… when I've had a drink, I don't know who that woman is, but she loves posting.’
Joking that while ‘sober Chloe’ very much didn’t want a hard launch, she laughs, ‘drunk Chloe did it so many times’, which Olivia agrees was ‘more like a medium boil.’
