Love Island’s Chris Hughes and former contestant Katie Salmon have hit out at Geordie Shore star Marnie Simpson after she branded contestants of their show “civilians”.

Marnie, who appeared on Celebrity Big Brother last year, took to Twitter on Friday to defend the Channel 5 show.

In a post that has since been deleted, she wrote: “Annoying that people would assume that CBB are copying Love Island, celebrities don’t copy civilians, more the other way around. Pipe down.”

A seemingly surprised Chris, responded: “Civilians?”

Oh his way for a night out, Chris later made a snarky comment in reference to Marnie’s remarks, which read: “Me and my fellow civilians, see you all in Southampton soon. On route; God bless.”

Marnie’s comments did not go down well with many of her followers who were quick to point out that a number of people currently in the Celebrity Big Brother house were living ordinary lives not too long ago but had become known for appearing on reality programmes.

One person to criticise Marnie was former Love Island star Katie Salmon who told her: “This tweet is just so embarrassing.”

This prompted an escalation of the pair’s messages as they launched into a bitter Twitter war, exchanging insults.

After calming down, Marnie deleted her messages but left some supportive words from a celebrity fan in the form of Nicola McLean on her page, which read: “What a twat @MarnieGShore why even respond to her. Come on girl you’re way better than this.”
