There is no denying that Love Island 2025 made for some controversial TV. One of the most talked about aspects of this year's series was the treatment of Shakira Khan.
Everybody who watched the show could see that there were two clear girl groups within the Spanish villa, with the majority of fans picking a clan and sticking to it.

On one side you had winner Toni Laites backed by finalists Shakira and Yasmin Pettet; the trio often found themselves going up against Meg Moore and Helena Ford. Emily Moran and Megan Forte-Clarke were also part of the squad and later on both Angel Swift and Lauren Wood joined their team.
Angel was the only one from that group who made it to the final four; Toni won the dating show, Shakira was declared runner up and Yas came in third place.
Now that she is out, Shakira has opened up about not only the villa feuds but also her time on Love Island.
'What it stems from is on day one or day two I was put in a position where I had to graft and so was deemed as a threat,' she explained, 'from then on, I was treated differently.'

Shakira wasn't just treated differently by the likes of Meg, Helena, Megan and Emily, but fans felt like the producers had a role to play in the way she was being portrayed to the other contestants.
Social media was often brimming with the public's rage at the 'mean girl' edit Shakira had been given when some of the other Islanders had been just as shady.
If you head over to the Love Island Instagram account you will still see countless people commenting on the posts, seething at how Shakira was treated.
'Why aren’t they showing when Meg kept talking bad about Shakira? It’s not fair that Shakira is getting all this heat because of what was shown yet Meg gets off Scott free 🙅🏼♀️ producers do better!!!!!', one person raged, with another demanding, 'so what’s your beef with Toni & Shakira?'

'I found a friendship with Toni and we sort of flocked together,' Shakira went on, 'when you are a threat to someone's relationship you are not going to be the best of pals.'
But it wasn't all bad as she DID finish in second place and her bestie won the crown, the boy and the £50k with her other best friend coming in third place.
Reflecting on her Love Island experience, we have a feeling that whatever happens from here on out Shakira will be just fine...
'My core memory is when we all jumped in the pool on the last night,' she confessed, 'it was like something out of a movie. It will stay with me forever. Like magic.'
