Australia will be joining the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, despite not actually being part of Europe.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the contest, which last year crowned bearded lady, Conchita Wurst from Austria as its winner. TV bods have described the change as “historic” and reckon it’ll raise the content’s profile to a “new global level”.

Well yeah, of course it will. It you keep adding countries from the rest of the world, then the rest of the world will inevitably become more interested.

But it won’t really be the Eurovision Song Contest then, will it? More like the Worldvision song contest or the Earthivision song contest.

Anyway, the news means that Aussies will be able to vote in the semi-final and the grand final of the contest. If they do win, they won’t be allowed to host the event next year - as Eurovision have assured fans that the contest will stay in Europe.

However, they would be allowed to defend their crown. Last year Australia released a jokey bid to appear in the contest and played in the semi-final.
