Many stars have had success off the back of Britain’s Got Talent whether they’re crowned the winner or not.
And the latest contestant to be making waves in the entertainment industry is singer Calum Scott.
The musician was Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer act in last year’s show and finished sixth in the final.
He has now signed on the dotted line with Capitol Records, the American home of Sam Smith, to launch his US career.
Calum previously experienced chart success after releasing his first single, a cover of Robyn’s Dancing On My Own, in conjunction with a social media company, and it spend six weeks in the UK Top 40 despite no radio play.
The debut track also made the Top 5 on iTunes in America and Canada.
Tweeting a picture of himself signing the contract, Calum wrote: “SO stoked to announce and can finally confirm that I’m now a SIGNED RECORDING ARTIST to Capitol Records, Universal Music Group. Thank you to all involved - the journey starts now!! X.”
Calum will also be working with Virgin EMI in the UK.
“This is a dream come true for Calum and he has a great team around him now,” a source told the Daily Mirror.
“He worked hard for quite a few years on the local music scene before entering BGT and he’s been dying to reveal the news since he signed the deal.”
Calum was tipped to win last year’s series of BGT by Simon Cowell but he wasn’t signed up by the big man’s record company.
The singer previously said: “I didn’t get picked up by Syco but the ball didn’t get dropped, which is something I was really happy about.
“I was worried people would think that’s it, done, I had my few moments of fame. One of the things I did think was that if I wasn’t picked up by Syco, maybe that was it for me.
“But I’ve been given some amazing opportunities. I feel everything happens for a reason.”
